Animal Crossing
In the latest Patch 0.2.1 update for Path of Exile 2. nine new unique items have been introduced to Dawn of the Hunt. Some of them bring interesting mechanics and potential build opportunities, while others fall short in terms of current usefulness or synergy with existing meta builds. Here's a detailed overview and ranking of these new uniques based on their potential impact in the current meta.
1. Palm of the Dreamer (Scepter) - S Tier
Palm of the Dreamer stands out as the best new unique. It grants increased chaos resistance, allies deal chaos damage, and most importantly, grants 27% of damage as extra chaos damage. The scepter also provides the Dreaming Gloom Shrine effect, causing enemies to explode for chaos damage equal to 25% of their max life when killed.
This explosion effect scales with map level and provides massive area-of-effect clearing potential, making it extremely powerful and attractive for a variety of builds. As a scepter, it can be used by spirit-using or spear characters, and may even replace meta items in some setups. Its rarity and price are extremely high, but its power level is unmatched among the new uniques.
2. Cadiro's Gambit (Quiver) - A Tier
Cadiro's Gambit is a unique quiver with no direct stats, but each arrow fired is randomly assigned one of several special effects: Crescendo (chains and increases damage), Splinter (splits to targets), Reversing (pierces and returns), Diamond (increased crit), Covetous (increased rarity), and Blunt (stun buildup).
For map clearing, Crescendo and Covetous are most desirable, while others are situational. The random nature of the effects means it is less consistent than a rare quiver with tailored stats. However, it can be valuable for farming with an already powerful character, especially for the increased rarity. Cadiro's Gambit is more expensive than other new uniques, but still not meta-defining, and will mostly be used by highly optimized builds seeking utility or fun.
3. The Last Lament (Crossbow) - A Tier
The Last Lament crossbow offers physical damage, attack speed, and leech. It can load a bolt into the crossbow skill on kill, and allows the last bolt to be fired without consuming it by sacrificing 300 life. This solves one of the biggest annoyances of crossbows: the need to reload.
While this increases convenience and quality of life, it does not significantly boost build power. The crossbow lacks projectile skill levels, crit chance, and other key stats. Thus, The Last Lament is a fun leveling or transitional item, but not meta-defining. It is better than many other new uniques, but still falls short of being top tier.
4. The Whispering Ice (Staff) - B Tier
Whispering Ice grants the Ice Heart skill, slowing enemies and casting Ice Storm—a cold version of Firestorm. While the skill’s flavor is appealing, its power is questionable, as Firestorm itself has not been a strong skill historically.
The staff gives +2 to 4 to all cold spells, increased intelligence (5–15%), and 4% increased spell damage per 10 intelligence. While these stats are good, they may not outperform a powerful one-hand weapon plus focus setup. Cold exposure on hit is a nice bonus, but the overall package likely cannot compete with top rare or crafted weapons. Its price is in the middle range for a new unique, and it has some potential for stat stacking builds.
5. Adonia's Ego (Wand) - B Tier
Adonia's Ego introduces Pinnacle Power, granting buffs per frenzy or power charge consumed, more elemental damage per power charge, and causing all elemental damage to contribute to ignite, shock, and freeze. While this is a cool and synergistic effect, few builds use all three ailments optimally.
The item gives mana, spell levels, cast speed, and plus one maximum power charge. However, it also reduces elemental resistances by 10% per power charge, a potentially severe downside. The unique is interesting and may enable niche builds, but it is not broadly powerful. Its market price is low, reflecting its limited appeal.
6. Constricting Command (Viper Cap) - D Tier
The Constricting Command is a unique helmet that allows the wearer to pin enemies that are primed for pinning. This mechanic is similar to crushing blows, utilizing a "pin bar" that fills from 0% to 100%. Typically, a monster needs its pin bar filled to 100% to be pinned, but with this helmet, the required percentage is reduced to 40% for normal monsters, 50% for magic monsters, 60% for rares, and 70% for uniques. This makes pinning easier overall.
However, at present, pinning does not have widespread use cases, making this helmet not very valuable. The market price reflects this, as it is quite inexpensive and likely to settle at a low value soon. While experimentation may reveal more uses in the future, Constricting Command currently lacks impact.
7. Mind of the Council (Helmet) - D Tier
Mind of the Council is another new unique helmet, focusing on using mana to add extra lightning damage to attacks. Attacks gain an added maximum lightning damage equal to 6 to 9% of maximum mana, but also cost an additional 6% of maximum mana. This unique is designed for attack-based characters, particularly those on the right or top-right side of the passive tree.
Unfortunately, most attack-based builds do not stack enough mana to make this effect worthwhile. It does not benefit spellcasters, and building an attack character with high mana is difficult. Alternatives, like Crown of Eyes, are typically superior. There may be niche uses, potentially with Mjolnir, but overall, this unique item is underwhelming. Its price is moderate for a new unique, but it’s expected to drop further as its usefulness becomes clearer.
8. Murkshaft (Toxic Quiver) - D Tier
Murkshaft is a quiver that grants the Bursting Fen Toad skill, a poison-based ability with a 25% chance to trigger on kill, spawning a toad that explodes for physical (and poison) damage. This is a unique and flavorful skill, but poison is not currently meta.
Aside from the skill, Murkshaft adds physical damage, provides mana per kill, increases poison duration, and gives a chance to poison and blind on hit. However, blind is easily available elsewhere, and the lack of powerful stats puts Murkshaft at a disadvantage. Rare quivers currently provide a significant portion of damage for bow builds, so unless the rest of the gear is exceptional, Murkshaft is not a top choice. Its price and overall power are low, making it more of a fun or meme choice.
9. Lioneye's Glare (Bow)
Lioneye's Glare provides physical attack, accuracy, attack speed, and dexterity. It introduces a new playstyle by adding distance to dodge rolls if you haven’t rolled recently, then reducing that distance with subsequent quick rolls. However, the standout feature is that barrageable attacks repeat once if there are no enemies nearby.
In practice, it's rare for characters to be without enemies nearby, especially during mapping. The bow lacks other desirable stats such as added projectile levels. While there is some fun to be had, there are generally better bow options available. Its low market value reflects this.
