This tier list focuses on the best runewords for armor in Diablo 2 Resurrected, specifically with solo self-found play in mind. The assessment here assumes you're not sharing your stash and you'll value your time instead of grinding for extremely rare runes endlessly. The ranking takes into account both the power and accessibility of each runeword. Some armors are amazing right at the start, while others only become options much later or with a lucky rune drop. Here’s a thorough look at which armor runewords are top choices and which ones are best left alone.
Armor runewords in Diablo 2 Resurrected range from cheap early-game powerhouses like Stealth to aspirational, game-defining items such as Enigma and Chains of Honor. For solo self-found players, S and A tier options will carry you through most of the game while the “Never Find This” tier remains a distant dream unless fate is on your side.
1. Stealth (S Tier)
This runeword stands out for how easy it is to get and how powerful it is, especially in the early game. All you need is a two-socket armor from Charsi or just picking one up along the way. Once you reach level 17. you can craft one of the best armors for solo self-found. Stealth brings unique benefits: magic damage reduction, dexterity, poison resist, mana regeneration, faster run/walk, faster cast rate (which is hard to get on armor), and faster hit recovery. It’s so good that you might finish Hell wearing it.
2. Treachery (S Tier)
For assassins, Treachery is the endgame armor. Other classes benefit greatly too, mainly because of the chance to trigger Fade, which provides curse and shrine length reduction, resistances, and physical damage reduction. It also offers a huge attack speed boost and some other handy stats. Crafting this only requires a Lem rune, which is not too rare. Treachery is an easy S tier pick.
3. Duress (S Tier)
Duress is an aggressive armor with enhanced damage, cold damage, crushing blow, and open wounds. It also provides faster hit recovery, enhanced defense, and good resistances. This armor is commonly used for Uber runs and is highly valued for both players and mercenaries. Whenever you get an Um rune, making this is a solid investment.
4. Smoke (A Tier)
Smoke provides the easiest resistance bump in the game for players who don’t have access to high-resistance shields. With a 50 resist all bonus, this runeword can fix most resistance problems as you enter Hell. The ingredients are not too rare, and the effect is strong, making Smoke a straightforward A tier choice.
5. Peace (A Tier)
This runeword offers a unique playstyle, giving you a chance to summon a level 15 Valkyrie when striking. The Valkyrie is strong enough to solo much of the game. It also gives Amazon skills, faster hit recovery, critical strike, and cold resist. Both Amazons and other classes can benefit, but you do need to be able to trigger it by attacking.
6. Hustle (A Tier)
Hustle was introduced in a recent patch and is all about speed. With 65% faster run/walk and 40% increased attack speed, it's perfect for melee classes. The armor also grants evasion and some resistances. While it’s best for melee, it’s only decent for casters. Overall, Hustle fits nicely into A tier.
7. Lionheart (A Tier)
Lionheart is a stat powerhouse: 20% enhanced damage, 70 total stats, 50 life, and 30 resist all. While it requires both a Lum and a Fal rune, if you get lucky, it’s worth it, especially for hardcore play. Every class can benefit from these stats, making Lionheart a reliable pick.
8. Prudence (B Tier)
Prudence requires a Mal rune and is best used in an elite ethereal base due to its durability regeneration. It offers solid defense, up to 35 resist all, and impressive flat damage reduction. While it's a favorite for energy shield sorceresses, most other options outshine it for general use.
9. Myth (B Tier)
Myth is a Barbarian-themed armor that provides crowd control with Howl and Taunt, as well as plus Barbarian skills. It’s affordable and offers a range of bonuses, but it fits best on Barbarians and is otherwise outclassed.
10. Voice of Reason (B Tier)
This one is very niche, shining only if you’re running a melee cold build. The runeword gives frozen orb and ice blast on strike, minus to enemy cold resist, and cannot be frozen. Outside those builds, it falls flat, but it’s the top choice for melee cold builds.
11. Bone (C Tier)
Bone is expensive, needing two Sol runes, but offers a chance to cast Bone Armor, plus skills for Necromancer, and some resistance. The cost is high for what you get, making it a less appealing option unless you’re specifically playing a Necromancer and get lucky with rune drops.
12. Rain (C Tier)
Rain is the Druid’s answer for cyclone armor triggers and plus skills, but there’s little reason to make it unless you’re a Druid who happens to find a Mal rune. It's not bad, just rarely worth choosing over other options.
13. Principle (C Tier)
Principle is expensive for what it does, requiring a Gul rune and giving a 100% chance to cast Holy Bolt on striking. The effect is interesting for fun builds, but it’s outclassed by other runewords for general use.
14. Wealth (D Tier)
Wealth is a gold-farming armor, but you’re better off socketing topaz for magic find. For the price of a Lem and Ko rune, the return is unimpressive unless you’re purely farming gold.
15. Enlightenment (D Tier)
Enlightenment costs a Pul rune and gives plus two to Sorceress skills and fire resistance, which is underwhelming considering Pul runes are not common.
16. Gloom (D Tier)
Gloom is very niche, expensive, and focused purely on defense. The bonus is not enough to justify its cost when better options are available for less.
17. Stone (D Tier)
Stone is all about defense, but since defense itself isn’t a game-changing stat, it’s not worth the investment. There are better options for both offense and utility.
"You Will Never Find This" Tier List
These runewords are so rune-intensive that most solo self-found players will never see them. If you somehow manage to craft one, they're game-changers. If you want to get one of them fast, check out the best deal of D2R items for sale at AKRPG.COM!
1. Enigma
Enigma grants plus two to skills, teleport, huge strength, and magic find, making it one of the most famous and desired items in Diablo history. However, for solo self-found, it’s so rare that most players will never craft it. If you somehow do, it’s top tier.
2. Fortitude
Fortitude offers 300% enhanced damage, making it incredible for melee, and a great option for mercenaries. The requirement of a Lo rune puts it out of reach for most solo self-found players.
3. Bramble
Bramble is niche, offering high poison damage and some utility for poison builds like Rabies Druid or Poison Nova Necromancer. The cost keeps it out of reach for most.
4. Chains of Honor
Chains of Honor is expensive but worth every rune, with plus two to all skills, huge resists, life leech, and magic find. It’s one of the best all-purpose armors, but again, the rune cost makes it extremely rare for solo self-found.
