The Runes of Aldur league in Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5 introduced a fresh way to craft items, gems, and currency by combining runes inside Ezomyte Remnants. Instead of gambling with random orb spam, players now pick a rune recipe before the fight begins, choosing the reward they want and accepting the difficulty that comes with it. This guide walks through what rune recipes are, lists every known recipe sorted by category, and shows where to farm the runes and recipes themselves across the campaign and endgame.

Rune recipes, officially called Runeshape Combinations, are specific arrangements of runes inserted into Ezomyte Remnants that produce a chosen crafted result after defeating the monsters that spawn from the stone. Each combination dictates the reward type, the modifiers possible, and the difficulty of the encounter, with longer recipes giving better outcomes but tougher fights. With that in mind, here is a closer look at how the system works, the full list of known recipes by category, and the best ways to farm the runes you need to use them.
Rune recipes are the community name for Runeshape Combinations, the core crafting layer of the Runes of Aldur league. They sit at the heart of the new economy and replace much of what used to be random rolls with a more deterministic system.
Find a Remnant: Ezomyte Remnants appear throughout campaign zones and maps as huge stones carved with runes.
Pick a recipe: Interacting with the stone opens a menu of Runeshape Combinations, each tied to a specific reward.
Slot your runes: You insert the matching runes into the engraved slots on the stone.
Fight the wave: Empowered monsters rise from the ground around the Remnant and attack.
Collect the reward: Surviving the encounter awards the crafted item the recipe was set to produce.
This is one of the few league mechanics that lets you pick your reward before the fight, which means you can target exactly what your build needs, from currency orbs to uncut gems, runes, alloys, or even Kalguuran skill gems. The trade-off is straightforward: more runes in the combination means more enemy waves, harder mods on those enemies, and stronger rewards.
Farrow's questline: Most base recipes come from completing The Runeseeker quest with Farrow in Clearfell across all four acts.
Encounter discovery: Some recipes are added to your list automatically by performing certain Remnant encounters in the field.
Act 4 expedition: A specific set of Ancient Rune recipes requires the optional Plunderer's Point logbook quest in Act 4. Skipping this leaves them locked.
Remnant Rune Recipes are split into five main categories: Currency, Runes, Gems, Alloys, and Uniques. Each category uses a different set of runes and slot counts.
Currency recipes cover everything from low-tier scraps to top-end orbs.

Recipes themselves are obtained through campaign progression and field encounters, while the runes you need to use them drop primarily from Remnant fights. Here is how to build up both.
The main path for adding new recipes to your list runs through Farrow, the new smith NPC tied to the Runes of Aldur mechanic.
Act 1: Find Farrow in Clearfell, then collect three Runestones across Grim Tangle, Hunting Grounds, and Ogham Farmlands. Returning to the Tree of Souls and clearing the Lost Catacombs adds the first wave of recipes.
Act 2: Continue Farrow's questline, which adds alloy recipes after the Captain Hartlin and Dark Mists storyline.
Act 3: Visit the Mystic Refuge in the jungles to add unique reforging and additional recipes. The area is optional in name only since skipping it locks unique-related crafting.
Act 4: Complete the Plunderer's Point optional logbook expedition. This adds Ancient Rune recipes that are otherwise unobtainable. Map pieces drop from Journey's End, Shrike Island, Isle of Kin, and Whakapanu Island, and must be turned in to the woman on the ship rather than Dannig.
Some recipes never appear from quests directly. Instead, they get added to your list when you stumble across the right Remnant encounter while playing maps or campaign zones. Running maps with rune mechanics turned up tends to fill out these missing entries naturally over time.
Runes drop almost exclusively from Ezomyte Remnants, which are scattered throughout campaign zones and Atlas maps.
Run every Remnant you find: Each one rolls a fresh combination menu, and surviving the fight drops runes plus Verisium.
Use longer combinations when you can: Higher slot counts increase enemy difficulty but yield more rune drops per encounter.
Push area level: Higher-level zones allow longer Runeshapes and unlock access to rare runes like Sky, Earth, Soul, Power, Death, Bond, Time, Life, Ward, and Oath.
Stack Atlas passives: Allocate nodes that boost Runes of Aldur encounters to increase Remnant frequency and reward quality on each map.
Hit Expedition Remnants: Remnants also appear inside Expedition encounters, where they apply effects to each explosion in the chain. This makes high-tier Expedition runs one of the densest farming sources for Verisium and runes.
A focused farming loop looks like this:
Pick high monster density maps so each Remnant draws from a packed monster pool.
Run maps with rune-related Atlas passives allocated for guaranteed Remnant spawns.
Stay at a level your build handles comfortably since 8-rune Remnants on a fragile build wipe XP fast and rarely return divine-level loot anyway.
Save advanced rune combinations for runs where you have the time and defenses to handle the empowered waves.
If a specific rune type refuses to drop, the trade economy works fine for filling in gaps. Common runes are cheap throughout the league, while rare runes like Power, Death, Time, and Wisdom carry premiums but are still circulating in volume after the first couple of weeks.
Before diving headfirst into the Remnant grind, a few practical points will save you currency:
Finish all four acts of Farrow's questline before settling into maps so your recipe list is as full as possible.
Do not skip Plunderer's Point in Act 4, since the Ancient Rune recipes locked behind it are some of the strongest weapon-specific crafts in the game.
Match recipe complexity to your build's survivability, especially when slotting 7+ rune combinations that produce stronger enemies than most map bosses.
Save rare runes like Wisdom, Power, and Time for high-tier recipes rather than spending them on lower-end combinations.
Track which recipes you still need by checking the in-game recipe list after each session, since some only appear after specific encounters.
The rune recipe system rewards players who treat it like a checklist rather than random orb spam. Lock in the questline across all four acts, farm Remnants consistently in maps with the right Atlas tree allocated, and the recipe list fills out into a deterministic crafting toolkit far stronger than anything PoE 2 has offered before.
