Diablo 4 Season 8 starts soon, and new bosses are coming. This means new challenges and items to expect. This article will cover everything you need to know about the new Lair bosses, the changes to boss mechanics, the types of Lair Keys required for accessing rewards, and tips on obtaining these keys.
New Lair Bosses in Diablo 4 Season 8
In Diablo 4 Season 8, you will encounter 3 new Lair bosses in different difficulties.
1. Urivar, Vessel of Hatred
Urivar is a knight who first appeared in Season 6 during the Vessel of Hatred Campaign. As a low-difficulty Lair Boss, he offers a more accessible challenge for players looking to engage with the new content without overwhelming difficulty.
2. Harbinger of Hatred
The Harbinger of Hatred is a Greater Lair Boss that presents a significant challenge, comparable to iconic bosses like Duriel and Andariel. Players will need to navigate various mechanics and strategies to defeat him effectively. To summon the Harbinger, you must collect Abhorrent Hearts from Urivar.
3. Belial, Lord of Lies
Belial, the Lord of Lies, is the highest difficulty Lair Boss introduced in Season 8. He not only serves as a formidable standalone boss but can also appear in a lesser form after players defeat other Lair Bosses and Apparition Incursion Bosses. You must be prepared for an ambush from Belial after their initial encounters.
Diablo 4 Season 8 Boss Changes
No Summoning Materials
Players no longer need summoning materials for Lair Bosses.
Lair Keys Requirement
Each player must possess specific Lair Keys to access a Boss's Hoard. The key requirement remains consistent across all Torment levels (1-4). The number of keys needed varies by Boss classification:
Initiate Bosses: 12 Lair Keys (Beast in the Ice, Grigoire, Lord Zir, Varshan, Urivar)
Greater Lair Bosses: 3 Lair Keys (Andariel, Duriel, Harbinger of Hatred)
Exalted Lair Bosses: 2 Lair Keys (Belial)
What Are Lair Keys in Diablo 4?
In Season 8 of Diablo 4, the previously used summoning materials have been repurposed into Lair Boss Keys. Players no longer need to collect summoning materials to challenge bosses but can fight them at any time. However, after defeating a boss, the dropped rewards are minimal. Instead, a treasure chest called the "Hoard" will spawn, and players must spend Lair Boss Keys to unlock the chest and claim their rewards. Lair keys are categorized into three tiers: Initiate, Greater, and Exalted. Each boss requires a specific key item.
Initiate Lair Boss Keys:
Varshan: Malignant Heart
Grigoire: Living Steel
Beast in the Ice: Distilled Fear
Lord Zir: Exquisite Blood
Urivar: Judicator’s Mask
Greater Lair Boss Keys:
Duriel: Shard of Agony.
Andariel: Pincushioned Doll.
Harbinger of Hatred: Abhorrent Heart
Exalted Lair Boss Keys:
Belial: Betrayer’s Husk.

How to Get Lair Keys in Diablo 4?
Initiate Boss Drops
Initiate-tier bosses drop key materials for the next-tier bosses they are linked to. For instance, Varshan and Grigoire drop the Shard of Agony, while Lord Zir and Beast in the Ice drop the Pin-Cushioned Doll. Urivar drops Abhorrent Heart. Betrayer’s Husk can be obtained from Belial’s Ambush. Additionally, Initiate bosses have a chance to drop Stygian Stones, which can be converted into any Greater Lair Boss Key at a 1:1 ratio. Stygian Stones are primarily obtained from Initiate bosses but can also be acquired through other sources such as the Helltides, Whispers, and World Bosses.
