The new interview with Jonathan Rogers leaks some information about the upcoming updates for Path of Exile 2, this article will highlight the schedule or roadmap of PoE 2 2025, mainly covering the full release (free-to-play 1.0 version), mid-league updates, mechanics improvements, and more.
GGG has decided to adopt a four-month league cycle for both Path of Exile 1 and Path of Exile 2, including Early Access. This means three leagues are possible to launch each year instead of four, and the schedule will alternate between PoE 1 and PoE 2 leagues every two months. For example, PoE 1 new league is set to be released in June, and PoE 2 may follow in August.
The Path of Exile 2 full version along with the 1.0 Update is targeting to release in late 2025 like December, but it is hard to achieve, so the full release might be postponed to early 2026 (possibly March or April), if the new classes are not ready for the full launch, GGG may release the PoE2 full 1.0 version as a free-to-play game first without them, and introducing the remaining classes post launch.
Path of Exile 1 will continue with seasonal leagues and updates, with PoE 2 existing as a parallel experience rather than a replacement.
The development of Path of Exile 2 Update 0.3 is underway, the team aims to introduce some new content and features while addressing issues from earlier versions. Although specific details about the PoE 2.0.3 release date have not been confirmed, one reasonable possibility is that it will be released in August 2025, two months after PoE 1 3.26, along with the introduction of the new class and new acts.
The developers acknowledge the community's concerns about mid-league balance issues, such as overpowered skills like Spark and Lightning Spear. However, they have chosen not to implement significant nerfs to avoid frustrating players. Instead, they plan to focus more on mid-league buffs. Following the launch of PoE 1 3.26 league, they intend to implement build diversity fixes and rebalance skill scaling for endgame.
The movement speed in Path of Exile 2 remains the same as in Path of Exile 1. However, Path of Exile 1 offers the Quicksilver Flask, which provides a 40% movement speed buff. Additionally, Path of Exile 1 has more spammable mobility skills. The developers are also considering adjusting gem requirements to address concerns that they may be too restrictive.
When it comes to item rarity and drops, the PoE 2 drop mechanics for unique items differ from Path of Exile 1. Unique items are tied to specific item bases, such as amulets and belts. The developers plan to adjust the drop system to make unique amulets and other rare item bases more common, which may potentially increase the chance of farming unique items while reducing the chances of non-magic items.
Limited scaling for minions and other archetypes in PoE2 is acknowledged. While no immediate fixes were outlined, the team remains open to improvements.
The new socket system may not resolve endgame resistance/attribute adjustments. Players have advocated for a resistance swap mechanic (like Harvest in PoE1), but GGG suggests high-tier gear should mitigate this.
