With the excitement around Elden Ring Nightreign fading and Duskbloods still far away, the next big thing fans are looking forward to is Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. Realistically, this new edition is mostly a port of the game for the Nintendo Switch 2, with a few new cosmetic items and some extra gear. From a content perspective, it’s not a huge expansion but more of a polished version for a new platform. Tarnished Edition is a special all-in-one version of Elden Ring that combines the original game with the major expansion called Shadow of the Erdtree. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Release Date and Platforms (Switch 2, PS4/5, Xbox & PC)

The Tarnished Edition is confirmed to launch sometime in 2025, but the exact date remains unknown. It will debut first on the Nintendo Switch 2. After that, the new content will be offered on other platforms like PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC through a downloadable content (DLC) pack called the Tarnished Pack. Based on recent industry events and announcements, it’s likely the release date of the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is between July and September 2025 (Q3 2025). This timing is expected because another Elden Ring-related DLC, for the spin-off game Elden Ring Nightreign, is scheduled for Q4 2025 (October to December). To avoid overlap, the Tarnished Edition should arrive before then.

The Tarnished Pack DLC

For players who already own Elden Ring on other platforms, the new content will come as the Tarnished Pack DLC. This DLC will include all the new items, classes, and features from the Tarnished Edition on Switch 2. Whether this will be free or paid isn’t confirmed yet, but it will be optional, meaning you can choose if you want to add it to your game. The Tarnished Pack is expected to launch at the same time as the Tarnished Edition on Switch 2, likely in Q3 2025.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Price

The Tarnished Edition is rumored to be a paid DLC priced around $5 to $15. If it only adds two new classes, a few armor sets, and some cosmetic changes like new looks for Torrent, many players might feel the price is a bit high. Cosmetics and small content updates are nice, but some fans want meaningful improvements or new areas to truly justify paying extra. If it is priced reasonably and includes some quality-of-life improvements, many players are willing to pay. Fans hope FromSoftware uses this chance to fix some long-standing issues, improve multiplayer, and possibly add new arenas or modes. 

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition New Classes

1. Knight (Knightess of Ides)

The Knightess of Ides is one of the two new starting classes in the Tarnished Edition. This class is thought to be a well-rounded fighter, focused on Quality stats, which balance strength and skill. The class is known to wield a Light Greatsword, possibly a new weapon or a version of the existing Milady greatsword. This class suits players who want a balanced, adaptable warrior to begin their adventure.

2. Heavy Armor Warrior 

The other new class is the Heavy Armor Warrior. This is a pure Strength-focused fighter, designed to wear thick, powerful armor and use heavy weapons. This class likely uses a Greatsword, emphasizing strong, slow attacks and high defense. It contrasts with the Hero class, which mixes Strength with Arcane magic. 

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition New Weapons and Combat Skills

The Tarnished Edition will add several new weapons and ashes of war, which are special combat skills players can attach to their weapons. This means more variety in fighting styles and tactics, allowing players to customize attacks and strategies.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition New Armor

There are four new armor sets total. Two are tied to the new classes, while the other two are found in the game world. These armor sets not only offer stronger protection but also fresh styles to make your character stand out.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Customization and Cosmetic Content

Players can also customize Torrent, their spirit horse, with three new appearances. Additionally, some smaller cosmetic items like the Mirrah Set and special armor for Torrent will be part of a separate, paid bundle. This pack is expected to be available on both Switch 2 and other platforms.

Elden Ring hasn’t received any updates since October 2024, which is almost nine months without a patch. Usually, FromSoftware patches their games even after the final DLC, but Elden Ring never had a final update. Many fans expect that the Tarnished Edition will be a way for FromSoftware to bring Elden Ring to a satisfying and stable state for everyone. It could be the final big version that fixes some of the smaller bugs and issues that have lingered. However, hopes for major changes or improvements should be kept very low because it seems mostly focused on porting the game rather than overhauling it.
