Elden Ring Nightreign DLC looks like a big step forward, offering new characters to play and a new ranking system to compete in. In this article, we’ll talk about the Nightreign DLC release date, new classes, bosses, and the Deep of Night mode details.
The Elden Ring Nightreign DLC is expected to release in the fourth quarter of 2025. Players who own the deluxe edition of the base game will get this DLC automatically without extra cost. This expansion promises exciting new content, including fresh playable characters or Nightfarers, challenging new bosses, and a brand-new game mode called Deep of Night.
The Nightreign DLC is going to introduce new Nightfarers to expand available archetypes. Rumors and community speculation suggest a variety of potential character classes, such as a monk affected by madness using martial arts and special incantations, a warrior type, and a dragon-themed priest or apostle with dragon incantations. Other ideas floating around include:
Machinist/Turret class: A character that deploys turrets with specialized functions (attack, healing, tanking).
Bleed/Status Ailment/Lifesteal class: A melee class focusing on status effects like bleed, madness, and lifesteal, emphasizing aggressive play.
'Waste of Space' class: A challenging, low-stat blank slate character resembling the traditional "Deprived" class from previous Souls games.
Returning NPC class: Potentially playable versions of fan-favorite NPCs, such as Patches or even the Soul of Cinder.
DLC-specific classes: Characters tied to the DLC's lore, like abyssal mages or pyromancers, fitting specific new areas and themes.
The Nightreign DLC is also rumored to include new bosses, while the exact list of bosses hasn’t been officially confirmed, leaks, rumors, and community discussions have given us some good ideas about what to expect.
Nightlords: These are the main bosses you fight in the game’s core Night mode. The DLC will likely add new Night Lords, each with distinct fighting styles and attack patterns. Since the Deep of Night mode features random Night Lord encounters, new bosses will make each run more unpredictable and exciting.
Magnified Bosses: In the Deep of Night mode, some bosses will appear magnified, meaning they glow with a deep red color and are much stronger than usual. These bosses will deal more damage, have increased health, and possibly new attack moves.
Beast-Mode Executor: Fans speculate a new form or variant of the Executor boss who becomes more aggressive and powerful, possibly summoning minions or using devastating combo attacks.
Dragon Communion Boss: Inspired by the rumored new characters who use dragon incantations, there might be a dragon-themed boss or a priestly figure connected to dragon powers. This boss could involve fire breath attacks, dragon summons, or shape-shifting abilities.
Madness-Driven Monk Boss: Tied to the idea of a Nightfarer monk corrupted by madness, this boss might combine martial arts with chaotic magical effects, forcing players to adapt to fast melee strikes mixed with unpredictable spells.
Relic-Linked Bosses: Since the DLC emphasizes new relics and cursed weapons, some bosses might have attacks or defenses linked to these items, such as causing status effects like bleed, rot, or madness during the fight.
There’s also speculation that some familiar bosses from the base game or previous expansions could return with new forms or harder versions, specially designed for the Nightreign DLC. Though less likely, rumors suggest that iconic characters might appear in some form, either as bosses or powerful Nightfarers you can challenge or even play.
A major highlight of the Nightreign DLC is the Deep of Night mode. In the Deep of Night mode, your progress and skill are tracked by a ranking system that works like a score or level. Every time you complete a run or defeat enemies and bosses, you earn points that raise your rating. Once you reach a high rank, you won’t be pushed back to a lower rank, so your progress is safe. However, your depth level might slightly drop if you lose matches, but not below a certain point. The deeper your rating, the tougher the enemies get. Bosses and even normal enemies become stronger, so you always face a bigger challenge the further you go. However, you don’t get to pick which boss you fight next. The game randomly chooses for you, so you need to be flexible and ready for anything. Weapons in this mode can have both buffs and debuffs, making choices more strategic. For example, some weapons might increase magic damage resistance but make you more vulnerable to physical hits, or cause rot buildup if you’re not at full health.
Ranking System
Depth 1: Rating 0 - 999
Depth 2: Rating 1000 - 1999
Depth 3: Rating 2000 - 3999
Depth 4: Rating 4000 - 5999
Depth 5: Rating 6000+
There’s also a skill-based matchmaking system paired with a ranking system, so when playing multiplayer, you will be matched with others of the same depth. This way, you play with people around your skill level, making the game fair and cooperative. If the game can’t find enough players at your rank, it will look for players in nearby ranks, so you won’t wait too long to find a match.
Depth Relics
Normally, you can only equip 3 relics. But as you climb the ranks and go deeper, you unlock up to 6 total relic slots: 3 regular ones and 3 new ones called Depth Relics. These relics only work inside Deep of Night runs. They give you powerful bonuses but come with some drawbacks to keep the game balanced. Depth relics can be placed in a new location upon each vessel. You may get both good and bad effects from these relics, for example, a depth relic might give you better magic defense but make you weaker against physical attacks.
One of the Depth relics is known as the Deep Grand Tranquil Scene. Below are its effects:
HP Recovery From Successful Guarding
Improved Reaper Attack Power
Art gauge charged from successful guarding +1, continuous HP loss
