Sione's Temper was added with the launch of Path of Exile 2, The Third Edict. How to use the gem in the most effective way? This article will talk about how to get and use Sione's Temper in PoE 2 0.3.
Sione's Temper is a Lineage Support Gem introduced in Path of Exile 2 patch 0.3.0. It is a unique support gem that modifies projectile spells by giving them a special mechanic involving Wildshards, a unique charge system that builds up and allows bursts of additional projectiles.
Unlike regular support gems, Lineage Support Gems like Sione's Temper are not craftable or purchasable through vendors or crafting systems. They are exclusive drops from endgame content. Any character class in PoE 2 that can use projectile spells and meets the gem requirements can use Sione's Temper. The gem requires Level 65 and 5 Intelligence; it has no Strength or Dexterity requirements.
It is best suited for builds that rely heavily on projectile spells such as Spark, Freezing Pulse, or Ice Spear. The gem boosts damage output by increasing projectile count, which can improve clear speed and single-target damage when the burst triggers. Because of its unique Wildshard mechanic, it adds an element of probabilistic burst damage rather than consistent incremental projectile increases. It is not typically paired with other additional projectile supports due to game restrictions.
PoE 2 Sione's Temper Effects and Mechanics
Wildshards Accumulation: Each cast of a supported projectile spell grants 1 Wildshard, stacking up to at least 5.
Trigger Chance: Every cast has a 20% chance per Wildshard to trigger the "projectiles in a circle" effect. (Supported Skills have a 20% chance to fire 8 additional Projectiles in a circle per Wildshard)
Reset Mechanism: Once the extra projectiles fire, all Wildshards are lost, resetting the count.
Statistical Expectation: The chance to trigger the effect on any cast averages around 28.49% due to the stacking and reset cycle. This is roughly 1.8 times better than a normal Wildshards support gem.
How to Get Sione's Temper in PoE 2 0.3?
Endgame Global Drops: Lineage supports like Sione's Temper can drop in the mapping phase after reaching the Atlas of Worlds.
Exclusive Boss Drops: Some lineage supports dropping only from specific bosses.
Abyssal Depths & Abyssal Content: Some lineage supports drops as rewards or loot from Abyssal Depths or Dark Domain content.
Note: These gems cannot be crafted or obtained via Uncut Support Gems; they only drop as loot.
How to Use Sione's Temper in PoE 2 0.3?
Socket the Lineage Support Gem into any linked socket group that already contains an active skill gem. It must satisfy attribute and level requirements like any other support. Do not use it with other additional projectile supports, as the game restricts equipping multiple support gems of the same category on one skill. Unlike normal Wildshards support, Sione's Temper does not support minion spells. It’s generally better to use it solo for projectile spells rather than combining with other Wildshards supports.
Best Build for PoE 2 Sione's Temper
The Blackflame Blood Mage in Path of Exile 2 0.3 is a projectile spell caster focused on using Ember Fusillade and Fireball spells. The build was originally showcased with the Snakepit unique ring, but it works well without Snakepit by swapping some gems. Instead of Snakepit’s +1 Fire Mastery support, the build uses new support gems on Fireball and Ember Fusillade, resulting in about a 10% damage loss but gaining rarity from a rare ring instead. The use of Sione's Temper brings lots of benefits for this build. It offers a more consistent and slightly better Wildshard proc chance for supported projectile spells. You can socket it on Fireball for consistent Wildshard procs or on Ember Fusillade for more stable damage output. This gem enhances the burst damage potential of the build by increasing the chance to fire additional projectiles through Wildshards mechanics. Another Lineage support to use for this build is Atalui's Bloodletting, which adds life cost to your skills but grants damage scaling based on that life cost. The skill life cost increases, which translates into approximately 50% increased damage, outperforming a Fire Mastery support gem in DPS. This gem synergizes well with life scaling, and the damage boost becomes even stronger with Wrath scaling planned in future updates. It also provides life tap functionality for your skills if you don’t use a Blood Magic helmet.
