Bells
Animal Crossing
With the guaranteed powerful aura buff, some beast spectres have been the most sought-after companions in the Path of Exile 0.3 The Third Edict expansion! Here we sort out the best beasts and spectres in the current Rise of the Abyssal league, and explain why they are good and how to tame them!
In Path of Exile 2 0.3 patch, the best beast companions are rares with strong auras, high life, and good attack speed. Popular choices include Fleshpierce for its hidden haste aura that boosts movement, attack, and cast speed; Blood Gulp for its extra physical damage aura; Antlion Charger for a balance of speed, bulk, and ease of farming with Infernal Legion builds; Frozen Mandibles for its tankiness and fast attacks; and Crested Behemoth as the sturdiest option for pure survivability. Look for beasts that can provide powerful auras, tank hits, and fit your playstyle or minion build’s needs. Below you’ll find details on the top picks, including why they’re valued and how to track them down.
Fleshpierce is highly valued for its forced, hidden Haste Aura, which grants +25% movement speed, +25% attack speed, and +25% cast speed. This unique aura does not interfere with other modifiers, allowing for powerful synergy. The base enemy is also fast and aggressive, making it excellent for clearing and supporting minions.
How To Tame Fleshpierce:
Fleshpierce is a guaranteed spawn a few screens directly north of the town in The Khari Crossing, appearing as part of The Traveling Merchant Torbik's quest event. To farm it, avoid killing the two rares or their minions, tag the checkpoint, and use Escape -> Respawn At Checkpoint. You can repeatedly respawn at the checkpoint to reroll the mods and find the best version without aggroing the monsters.
Frozen Mandibles stands out for being very fast, strong, and tanky. It comes with a forced, hidden Periodic Cold Explosions effect, making it a powerful offensive companion and a durable front-liner for tougher encounters.
How To Tame Frozen Mandibles:
To find Frozen Mandibles, search the same caravan event area where Fleshpierce and Blood Gulp spawn, typically east or southeast from the Gala Gates teleporter at Carry Crossing. Look for the event and check the rare spawns until you locate Frozen Mandibles.
Blood Gulp features a forced, hidden Extra Physical Damage Aura, which increases global physical damage by 40%. This aura does not prevent the normal Extra Physical Damage Aura from appearing, offering the potential for stacking and even higher physical damage output.
How To Tame Blood Gul:
Blood Gulp spawns near the caravan event in Carry Crossing, usually east or southeast from the Gala Gates teleporter. For reliable farming, start at Gala Gates and head toward Carry Crossing. If the event isn’t present, retrace your path and try again, as the area layout is random. Look for the caravan event to find and tame Blood Gulp.
Crested Behemoth boasts a massive 330% life pool, making it one of the tankiest minions available. With the right modifiers, it can exceed 100,000 health, turning it into a true damage sponge for your minion build. However, it’s slower than Antlion Charger, which can limit its suitability for speed-focused setups. Still, for builds that need a durable frontliner, it is unmatched in raw survivability.
How To Tame Crested Behemoth:
Crested Behemoth is much rarer and harder to find with optimal modifiers. It spawns as a rare beast in later acts (noted as being difficult to obtain in Act 4 and possibly the Chimeral Wetlands). Farming for a Crested Behemoth with good mods can take hours. Look for the same valuable modifiers as with Antlion Charger, such as Hasted, Haste Aura, Extra Life, and resistances.
Antlion Charger is considered one of the best general-use beasts for minion builds, especially when paired with Infernal Legion. It has 250% life, a good attack speed, and is decently fast compared to other high-health minions. This beast can take you far into endgame content with the right mods. Its rapid attack speed can occasionally interrupt its own damage-over-time from Infernal Legion, but overall it is a powerful and reliable companion that can handle Arbiter 4 content with basic modifiers.
How To Tame Antlion Charger:
Antlion Charger is found at a rare farming spot known as the “AntFarm™.” This spot is in the Interlude acts, and you want to look for a cluster of ant enemies in the new zones. The best approach is to reset the instance until you find the ant colony. Once found, check for rare Antlion Chargers with desirable mods (like Extra Fire Damage, Increased AOE, Fire Resistant, Elemental Resistance Aura, Increased Life, Hasted/Haste Aura, Life Regen). Avoid mods like Shroud Walker, as it causes the beast to teleport all over the map, reducing its effectiveness.
