As the fires of Vessel of Hatred prepare to ignite this October, the Diablo community is already turning its gaze toward the next chapter in Sanctuary’s dark saga: Expansion 2. Today, we're going to leak all D4 Expansion 2 news, including the release date, new classes, regions, storylines, and items.
1. April 21, 2026 – Most Likely Target (from Book Release)
A new Diablo book is scheduled to release April 21, 2026, which falls on a Tuesday, Blizzard’s typical patch/release day. Matches previous trends: Diablo books often release alongside or shortly before expansions or major patches. The book may feature or tease a new Paladin/holy class, which fits previous Diablo expansion themes and art leaks.
Strongest hint yet. Blizzard has used book release dates as marketing teasers before. April 21, 2026 is a credible candidate for Diablo 4 Second Expansion 2026.
2. Earlier Release Possibility: February or March 2026
Another possible Diablo IV expansion 2 release date could be February or early 2026, likely based on:
Development cycle rhythm: 1 year after Vessel of Hatred (which releases October 8, 2025).
Competitive timing: PoE 2 and Last Epoch are releasing new content in early 2026.
Blizzard might want to beat other ARPGs to the punch with their second expansion.
Possible but less supported by hard evidence. Nothing directly points to February/March other than wishful logic.
Paladin / Holy Class Clues leaked fan art or "possibly real" art shows:
Blessed Hammer-style attacks
Shield throws, auras, and holy light visuals
Strongly reminiscent of a Paladin class from Diablo II
Blizzard has not yet released a true holy archetype, and fans have long requested it
Reinforces the idea that Expansion 2 = New Class (Paladin?), which aligns with the book and release speculation.
Expansion will likely explore the Western Continent, specifically:
West March — capital city with a significant holy/Templar connection.
Canduras — includes Old and New Tristram, Lot Golam, and the Monastery (Andariel’s location).
Kingsport — tied to the Scoundrel NPC Lyndon.
This contrasts with Vessel of Hatred’s setting in the Eastern continent (Nantu). Northern regions like Mount Ariet and Dreadlands may be reserved for future expansions. Possible smaller visits to Shanai (home of the Wizard and Akarat’s origin). West March has suffered devastation but is still inhabited, possibly more a healing metropolis than ruins.
Mestor, powered by Akarat’s pseudo-corpse, will be the main antagonist. Mestor may try to corrupt or manipulate the Templar Order or the faith in the light. Themes around religion, faith, corruption, and holy orders will be central. Possible return/appearance of Tyrael and other angels. Potential conflict with angels — either corrupted or a small angelic host sent due to the player character’s “vessel of hatred” status. Lilith’s essence inside the player character may be key to defeating Mestor, but Lilith herself likely won’t return fully. Diablo himself may be teased but not fought in this expansion, possibly through Mestor’s efforts to bring him back.
D4 Set Items: Likely to return, but cautiously implemented to avoid Diablo 3’s mistakes.
New Mounts: Possibly direwolves, fitting the West March theme (following Jaguars in Vessel of Hatred).
New Endgame Mode: Possibly wave-based survival or tower defense style, maybe even fighting angels.
New Skills and Passives: Each class to get new abilities and Paragon board expansions.
Level Cap Increase: Prediction to raise cap to 70.
Date | Event |
---|---|
July 29, 2025 | Patch hits live servers – includes bug fixes (e.g., Echo of Lilith issue) and pit improvements. |
Mid-August 2025 | Gamescom – a prime candidate for Blizzard to reveal Expansion 2 details or release date. |
Late November to early December 2025 | Season 10 Launch (December 23, 2025 confirmed) – Expansion 2 is unlikely to release simultaneously, but important for timing. |
Expected PTR | Usually starts 4–6 weeks before the season launch, so early-to-mid November seems likely. |
NetEase to launch licensed Chinese servers for Diablo 4. No confirmed date yet, but this points to Blizzard expanding market reach. Could coincide with a global expansion, especially if timed with April 2026. Extra motivation to line up Expansion 2 with Chinese market re-entry.
